TERM 2
WEEK 5
WEEK 5
WELCOME BACK TO AN EXCITING TERM 3
We hope you all had an opportunity to spend time as a family and make some great memories over the break! It was fantastic to see our students back and ready for another solid term of learning.
Our teachers, Felicity and Katie spent Tuesday at a professional development day in Wagga with peers from St John’s and Wagga Lutheran School, learning about the new K-2 English syllabus. They focused on teaching practices in vocabulary and comprehension with AISNSW consultant, Sue Pike.
Our Learning Coaches, Debbie and Lucy ZOOMED in to a full-day PD session on supporting students with heightened emotions and literacy intervention. It was held at St John’s and was led by an Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist. Both Kerri and Alison have also been working throughout the past few months with staff from Walla and Jindera to develop administrative processes and share skillsets between our colleagues in the three schools. The aim for all of our staff at St Paul’s is to continue to build professional capacity with the goal to benefit the learning experiences of our students.
The power of collaboration is in full swing at St Paul’s!
COURAGE IN ALL SITUATIONS
St Paul’s Term 3 value we are focusing on is COURAGE. In Chapel this week, we shared where and who we get our courage from. I showed our students a video from a few years ago where I launched off a ledge in New Zealand. The message was in the form of an analogy - the bungee cord connected to my harness is like Jesus connected to us. We can confidently step into any challenging environment with the confidence and COURAGE that Christ is always there with us. Our courage comes from knowing he will always be there.
NAIDOC WEEK 2022
Over the term break, we celebrated NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, and on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
This protest was one of the first major civil rights gatherings in the world and was known as the 'Day of Mourning'. This later became 'Aborigines Day', and in 1955, it was decided that it should become a positive celebration of Aboriginal culture, heritage and achievement, rather than a protest.
Today, celebrations consist of range of traditional and contemporary activities. There are many gatherings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people coming together to celebrate and share with non-Aboriginal people the strengths of its First Nations People. This important event helps build positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, enabling a deeper understanding of our differences and similarities. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to eliminate bias and discrimination by reflecting and reconciling the wrongs of the past to facilitate hope and build a fairer future.
It is important for children and teens to have an understanding that we do not need to assimilate into one culture in preference over others. Difference is a great thing and our society can only benefit from a range of world views and experiences. This Special Report offers caregivers suggestions on how to celebrate ‘NAIDOC Week’.

Well that’s a wrap for Term 2!
What do you have in store for your holiday break? Perhaps some lazy mornings enjoying the change of a busy school morning and no rush to get those lunch boxes packed, PJ days, trips away, family gatherings, late lunches, perhaps busy on the farm?
The holiday season is a time when we can gather as friends and family. It’s in these times when special memories are often made. It’s in these times when we can relax, unwind and feel restored. I pray that you can do all these things over the next two weeks and get the chance to slow down the pace (at least a little)!
As I was on duty this afternoon, I couldn’t help but smile at the students in our community. A whole school game of dodgeball, with the big and the little kids followed by a whole school movie organised by our Year 6 leaders, looking snuggly and warm in their PJs. What a unique opportunity we have here at St Paul’s to grow and learn together in a supportive and Christian environment. God is good. He can ultimately give us the rest we so often need and crave and really has brought us here for this time.
I thank God for this season at St Paul’s. Wishing you richest blessings for the holiday break. I look forward to catching up with students and parents in Term 3.
Blessings,
Hollie

Philippians 3:12-14
Winter is here, and so is all the rain. It has been super chilly and wet outside. It feels as though we are in hibernation. Many outdoor activities have been cancelled, such as the planned athletics events. At St Paul's it was decided instead to have indoor gym activities which the children thoroughly enjoyed. This gym activity got me thinking about how we Christians exercise our faith. Lutherans often refer to this as “faith active in love.” Paul the apostle declares in Phil. 3: 14 “I run straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above.” This is Paul’s shorthand for how active faith happens. Our faith is never still. The Christian has a goal to reach, that is, heaven or the “life above.”
We journey towards our heavenly prize knowing that “Christ Jesus has already won me to himself.” Let those words from Paul settle into your heart, because they concern YOU. That is faith. Faith knows that you have been won, claimed, by Christ.
And from that awareness comes an active faith, a faith that pushes through the cold and wet winters of life. The Christian has a foretaste of heaven, the “life above.” The tastiness of God, a God who gives himself in Christ, keeps faith going. We get to spiritually feast off Christ everyday and we taste heaven. In faith, we praise God, call on him, and give him thanks. In faith, we are drawn in empathy to serve our neighbors who are in need. As we love God and others, we encounter heaven on earth. And that keeps faith going. With the love of God in our hearts we push through the coldness of life. The Spirit warms our hearts to God. We are then warm people in an often wet and cold world. A warmed Christ-heart is an active heart. Such a heart is drawn to heaven and encounters God in the here-and-now. These divine-encounters, foretastes of heaven, keep faith in motion. And then the world gets to taste and see what it means when “Jesus has already won me to himself” for that “life above.”
We welcome Sue Trethowan to the St Paul’s team for Weeks 1-3, while Mrs Kinning is travelling through Europe. We are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic and experienced educator here for the short term to share her skills and knowledge with our students and staff!
After having a number of students ill at the end of Term 2, it's great to see so many smiling faces back in the classroom and eager to keep learning in Term 3.
Next week we will be looking at 'Volume'. If you have some spare ice cream containers at home can you please send them in with your children to help our understanding of how volume works?
We've also managed to take advantage of some of the beautiful sunshine and head outdoors this week.
Welcome to Term 3! I am so excited to be back!
This week, we read the book The Day the Crayons Quit and wrote our own story about the day the chairs quit! 3-6 were surprised to see our classroom chairs had quit when they walked into class on Thursday!
It has been such a beautiful, sunny week that we have done some learning outside.
Kindest regards,
Miss Ridley
CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED!
No, Christmas is still happening but the P&F are sad to announce that the planned Christmas in July Family Trivia Night will not be going ahead as planned. The Henty Community Club is holding a trivia night on that same night to support Avondale Place so if you were looking forward to some trivia get your table registered there instead. It should be a great night out, see the flyer for more information.
This also means we will not be drawing our raffle next week. It will now be drawn around Father's Day - we will confirm over the next few weeks a more precise time and location.
All raffle books need to be returned to the school office no later than Wednesday 24th August.
Thank you to our families for supporting the raffle. And a special thankyou to KBM Farms for the donation of the dressed pig 🐷, it's much appreciated. The Helifly voucher has also been donated. Thanks so much 😊
We will start collecting goodies for the Goods Hamper. Any items you'd like to donate can be dropped to the school office.
Who would have thought that fourth time lucky would have resulted in such an amazing day for our Athletics Carnival?!
Thankyou to St Paul’s College staff and students who assisted in the preparation and running of our day. As always, the time and effort you put in blesses us with a smooth and very enjoyable day. We really appreciate your willingness to help.
Congratulations to the students – you should be proud of your efforts throughout the day. All day you tried hard, did your best and participated with great attitudes. The beautiful weather must have brought out the best in you if the number of records broken is anything to go by!

Dear St Paul’s School Community,
On behalf of the School Board, I would like to announce changes to the board that was elected at our May Annual General Meeting. First and foremost, we would like to sincerely thank Brad Wettern who has served on the board for thirteen years, and for the past eight years as Chairperson. Brad’s management skills and calm presence has brought a wealth of knowledge to our school during both the good and challenging times. Brad will continue to sit on the board for the next year to assist with the handover.
Our 2022 School Board is –
Joanne Knobel, Chairperson
Tim Lubke, Vice Chairperson
Renae Lieschke, Secretary
Jamie Armstrong, Megan Schuller, Noel Stein, Brad Wettern, Members
Non-Voting Members
Stephen Zweck (Congregation Chairperson)
Brad Moss (Principal), Hollie Kinning (Deputy Principal)
Pastor of Henty Congregation (currently vacant)
I would like to provide our school families with a brief statement on the role of the school board. Our school board meets once a month and in general, we are responsible for all matters relating to the policies, practices, management and operations of our school. We are required to drive the mission and performance of our school and ensure that St Paul’s complies with all its contractual, statutory and other legal obligations.
Each month we review the financial affairs of our school and receive reports from the Leadership Team ensuring our learning practises and activities are in line with our strategic plan.
In addition, our board works closely with Lutheran Education Victoria, NSW & Tasmania (LEVNT) who is committed to supporting school boards in the region through attendance at meetings during the year, and by providing ongoing advice and support to Chairs. LEVNT also supports our school providing education and training for board members in particular areas of succession planning, developing strategic priorities for school improvement, facilitating board review, policy processes, and risk frameworks. In short, LEVNT is an incredible resource we work alongside to ensure our school is the best it can be.
As a past parent of St Paul’s, I love our school and all that it stands for. St Paul’s is an authentic Christian community and with Jesus as our Head Teacher, we can provide the highest quality education for your children. It is a pleasure, to serve our school in this capacity, and look forward to all that God has planned for us. If you would like any further information from the board, please do not hesitate to contact one of our members and I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Mrs Kinning!!
Tuckshop will be starting again on Monday! Thanks so much to our volunteers - we love eating the deliciousness that you create each week.
On the Year 5 Discovery Day at St Paul’s College, Aiden, Blake, Micah and Oscar made lava lamps in science.
During agriculture, we decorated ducks with pipe cleaners and had duck races. Micah and Blake’s duck won twice in a row.
In drama, we did acts of the 3 little pigs and then we went and learnt about our wellbeing.
After that, we went in the gym and played sport. We played hockey and tic tac toe.
The Discovery Day was really fun and we would like to thank the College for organising an awesome day!

What a fun way to finish off what has been a very busy term!
With the school holidays coming up it's a great chance to check through your uniforms.
You can check that you have your uniform and not someone else's, and also do a bit of a stocktake to see if you are missing any items.
We have one unclaimed, unlabelled sports jacket in lost property - perhaps it could be yours?
If you find that you never seem to get around to returning cans and bottles for the 10c refund then we might have the solution you've been looking for! We will have a specially designated recycling bin in the lunch area for refundable bottles, and we would be happy to add yours to our collection. All money raised will be made available for the students to put towards resources and equipment, which they will collaborate their spending ideas with teaching staff.
