TERM 2
WEEK 5
WEEK 5
This is one of the most inspirational acts of sportsmanship I’ve seen in recent times. We spoke as a school about that we have the power to build each other up and also tear each other down. We too can be like Alistair and speak life into others. I encourage families to take the time to watch the clip as it demonstrates what we are striving to build in our students here at St Paul’s.

Parent Feedback Group
Thank you to our parents who attended our Week 9 PFG. We worked through our new student reporting proforma and discussed our student leaner profile. These sessions are invaluable as we develop new processes at St Paul’s and partner with our families to do all we can to inspire and support your children. Our next session is Tuesday 10 May, 2:45pm in Week 3. We hope to see you there!
Managing Overwhelm
Willingly or not, we have all been exposed to a piece of bad news that has lingered in our thoughts for days afterwards. This seems to be more common in the current environment than ever before. Due to the pandemic, the world we now live in is a very different place, so it is easy to see why we might feel impacted. It can often seem like there are many stressful events occurring simultaneously, and the hyperconnected nature of our environment means we are constantly being reminded of the challenges we face via numerous media and social media channels. Our connectivity to the digital world exposes us to a barrage of messages that can often leave us feeling overwhelmed.
It is therefore important for children and parents alike, to consciously and intentionally learn good wellbeing strategies. Unfortunately, our brains have not evolved fast enough to adapt to the digital landscape we find ourselves in and this often leaves us feeling overwhelmed and can result in increased levels of stress and anxiety. If left untreated or unmanaged, constant stress and anxiety can lead to a number of behavioural issues or health consequences.
The blueprint for parenting, based on our own experiences, is no longer fit for purpose in raising kids as citizens of tomorrow. The combination of constant access to information and having little control over the situations presented, can be stressful and overwhelming. Although we can’t provide our kids with certainty, we can provide them with the skills and strategies to cope to enable them to flourish and thrive, socially, emotionally and academically. It may not necessarily be the information itself that is harmful, but more their inability to process and make sense of it.
The below link to Dr Emma Woodward, unpacks some of the current pressures in our world and she discusses proactive and practical strategies to positively flourish in challenging times.
The Power of Our Words
This week at our Chapel I played a clip of the Brownlee brothers. Alistair and Johnathan Brownlee are triathletes from Great Britain.
Towards the end of the race, Johnny’s body began to fail. Alistair was about to pass his younger brother, yet he wrapped his arms under Johnny’s and carried him to the finish line. Sacrificing his own chance of a win, Alistair placed another's needs before his own.
SchoolTV
SchoolTV is now accessible for our school community on our website. You can access via the ‘student support’ tab. SchoolTV is an outstanding resource for families and we encourage you to explore what is on offer.
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Yours in Christian Service,
Brad Moss
Welcome to Term 2!
We have started the term by sharing with students our focus for the weeks ahead. Lutheran Schools have core values and at St Paul's we choose to spend the term delving in to one area. Last term our focus was 'Service', this term our focus is 'Love'. Alongside this, we as a staff team have been working on a Learner Profile of a St Paul's Student. The area we have chosen to explore with students is 'Empathy'.
Love and Empathy... they go hand in hand! How fortunate we are in a Lutheran school to have Jesus as the head. He set the ultimate example for us of what it means to love and to be loved. We look forward to learning what it means and looks like to show empathy and being able to recognise it and put it into action.
The Bible tells us how we should treat each other...
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
Anyone can find the dirt on people, be the person who finds the gold.
Proverbs 11:27

Year 3-6 came to look at the work we've been doing as History Detectives. Our class enjoyed being experts and telling the older students what they have learnt about the differences between 'Then' and 'Now'.
In Maths we've been learning about Measurement - Length and Area. We love being outdoors measuring and choosing different items to compare length and discuss the area of shapes.
We've been working hard on our PBL and are really proud of our efforts!
We are super excited to see the return of Tuckshop this term!
Thankyou to our volunteers who have made this possible.
The menu with Tuckshop dates will be emailed to families.

We are proud of our students and our school. Our uniform is a reflection of the unity our school community enjoys and the high standards of excellence we offer.
During the recent transition to the new uniform special allowances had been made to give families time to adjust to the new uniform requirements. We now ask for complete compliance to the official school uniform which includes:
Completely black shoes
Ankle length white socks - no markings or logos
Navy long sleeves under polos (optional)
Long hair tied back
Thankyou to the students and their families who participated in the Anzac Day March on Monday. The weather was very kind to us as we stopped to honour our past and current Service Men & Women. Let us never forget their sacrifice and courage.
There is a selection of preloved music equipment that is ready to be re-homed. If you would like to come and see what is available please call the office to arrange a time to have a look.
