TERM 2
WEEK 5
WEEK 5
Last week, Miss Ridley, myself and several staff from St John’s attended a Melbourne Learning Tour and visited Templestowe College, Newmark Primary and Prices Hill Primary.
One of the largest take-aways for me was the confirmation of the power of student-focused learning. This tour reinforced the importance of our student focussed approach at St Paul’s. We know the transformative power of engaging student interest and linking quality learning tasks to drive motivation and growth. We want our children running into school each day excited about engaging in learning!
I believe that investing in staff professional development is a crucial component of creating a positive and professional school culture that has a team approach to increasing student growth. Learning tours provide educators with firsthand experiences that they can't always get from readings or traditional professional development workshops. They immerse educators in real-world contexts, allowing them to observe innovative teaching methods, educational technologies, and best practices in action.
The Power of Contemporary Learning Tours
Yours in Christian service
Brad Moss
Principal
Education is increasingly diverse, learning tours involve interactions with other educators, administrators, and experts in the field. These networking opportunities facilitate collaboration, idea-sharing, and the development of professional relationships.
Learning tours provide educators with opportunities for professional growth and development. They enable educators to reflect on their own teaching practices, identify areas for improvement, and learn new strategies for enhancing student learning.
Contemporary learning tours play a crucial role in the professional development of educators by providing them with experiential learning opportunities, exposure to diversity, networking and collaboration opportunities, inspiration and motivation, avenues for professional growth, and the tools to keep pace with change, all of which ultimately contribute to improved learning outcomes for our students at St Paul’s.
It’s amazing the twists and turns that life can throw at us and at these moments, it’s great to remember that God is in control.
Brad has sent out a letter informing you that there are challenges within our Riverina Lutheran School Community and right now, our prayers are with Dylan from Lutheran School Wagga Wagga.
Blessings,
Hollie
As of the 4th March I will be joining Lutheran School Wagga Wagga for 6 weeks and although I have mixed feelings about not being at Henty, in the community I know and love, it is great to support people in their time of need.
I have full confidence in the staff in Henty to do an incredible job while I’m away and I’m sure all will run smoothly. Thank you for all your incredible support as a school family. Six weeks will be over before we know it.
I look forward to connecting with you next week at our Friday Night Gathering.

A couple of reminders from Alison's Desk:
* There are quite a few items in lost property. Please come in and check when you are next passing by. I'm very happy to write names in permanent marker for any of the students who come and ask me.
* Summer is around the corner and there are new after school activities: please let me know if there are any changes for the after-school routines for your child. If it's a once off, don't forget to call, text or email before 3:00pm. If it's for the rest of the term, please write an email.
Thanks!!
The K,1 class have been exploring the concept of respect. We have been looking at respecting ourselves by showing self-care (brushing our teeth, eating healthy food, getting plenty of sleep etc).
Last week we were talking about how we can show respect for each other by being kind, encouraging each other and being good friends. They were set a group task – to make a structure using marshmallows and dry spaghetti that could support a small book.
Everyone worked cooperatively in their groups and encouraged each other. It was so exciting to see the finished structures!
This week the Kinders started to learn their letters and sounds. I can’t wait to see their progress!

This week 2/3 were given their driving question for this term's PBL project…
How can we, as historians, investigate stories of our school's past?
As part of their project, students’ will be creating a map of our school that will also show stories from the past. Their project will include an artwork of a historical site at school as well as an interview from someone who has been a past student, staff member, family or has a community connection to our school.
Blessings,
Miss Ridley
This week, we have been reading ‘The lighthouse keepers’ lunch’. Mr and Mrs Grinling need to think of a solution to stop the pesky seagulls eating Mr Gringling’s lunch! As a class, we have discussed other ways we could stop the seagulls eating his lunch. It is great to see creative ideas and problem solving. We also painted lighthouses that are now on display in our classroom.
The 4, 5 &6 class have been conducting a maths investigation. They have been calculating how many times they have done certain activities over the course of their life.
How many times have you done these activities?

Welcome to Autumn! I can’t believe that we are already in March and the weather has already transitioned to much cooler mornings. The change of the season has me reflecting on summer and the things that I have been grateful for over the past three months. I absolutely LOVE the warmer weather and extra-long days, so I am able to enjoy my family, swim in the evenings, sit under the shade of a tree with an ice-cream and take a walk after dinner to watch the sunset. These summer days that the Lord makes, certainly make me sit up and realise how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful part of the world.
These simple things that make us feel good are often forgotten when we are struggling with the pressures of daily life, traumatic events and negative emotions. Some research suggests that practicing gratitude can deepen the feelings of gratefulness and improve our wellbeing. Moreover, it can have a positive impact on the people in our family and friendship circle.
One way that we can remind ourselves (and others) of what and who we appreciate is to tell someone. I challenge you to identify a specific person in your life and tell them why you are grateful for them – it could be over the phone, text or in person.
If you feel you might like to learn more about happiness and gratitude, the SchoolTV website has some great articles on how you bring this practice into your family. See the link below.

It was a perfect way to start the school year to gather at St Paul's Lutheran Church to pray in the new school year at the beginning of term. It was a nice and toasty summer's day to then head to the Henty Pool for our Welcome BBQ. Thank you to all our friends and families who were able to attend what was an enjoyable day.
The P&F Executive for 2024 is as follows:
President - Kerri Klemke
Vice President - Craig Hancock

Treasurers - Rachelle & Andrew Cunningham
We thank our outgoing VP & Secretary, Kym Bisset & Megan Klemke for the valuable contributions you have both made over the past years, and we welcome Craig & Breanna into their new roles.
What a beautiful blue-sky day for a parade celebrating books.
Thank you for all the effort from parents and students to get in the mood for reading and fun!
On Friday 1st of September, Years 3 to 6 went to Yerong Creek for the Bernie O’Connor Carnival. We played with St Joseph’s, Culcairn and St Patrick’s, Holbrook. It was a great day! The sun was shining, and everyone had lot’s of fun.
The 5/6 boys played footy and came 1st for the whole day. We played against The Rock and the score was 12 to 32. The 3-4 boys came 3rd in the whole day. Well done to the 5/6 and 3/4 girls playing netball who got runners up.
Well done to Ivan and Neve for playing with students they didn’t know.
Congratulations to Blake for winning the furthest kicking competition.
Thank you for the coaches and families who helped on the day.

We are currently holding a fundraiser for scripture in public schools around the Henty and Culcairn areas, especially Billabong High School.
The money raised will go towards providing the curriculum and booklets for the volunteers who teach at the public schools, as well as the Billabong High School scripture teacher - Sonja Dionysius.
Please feel free to circulate the below link far and wide. All you have to do is order some beautiful bulbs from the website through the link below. 40% of Tesselaar profits go directly to Scripture locally. Plus, who doesn't love spring flowers!
Here’s a pic I took of some ranunculus I ordered from Tesselaar last year.
