A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome back to a brand-new year filled with exciting adventures! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break, ready to embrace the wonder of what is possible in 2024!

As we kick off the new school year, we want to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning students, families, and staff members. It has been fantastic to have our students back on site and bring energy back into the grounds!

Staff are excited about 2024 and we have all been working collectively to ensure we are organised, planned and ready for learning and a strong start to the year.

Welcome to the 2024 School Year

Yours in Christian service

Brad Moss

Principal

We have so much to share with our school community this year.

We are confident that 2024 will be filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences. I look forward to continuing to work together to build on the positive and supportive environment we have at St Paul’s where every student can thrive.

Exciting Updates

Chris Willis has done an amazing job constructing our new covered area. It looks amazing and the best part is it provides a cool and protected learning area for our students. We will hopefully have the new ground cover installed soon and the project will be finished. THANK YOU to our generous P&F for funding this project in conjunction with a NSW grant.

Chris is also the hero over the summer break for installing the much-loved AFL posts.

They are a clear winner and have already been put to good use!

Thank you for being a part of the St Paul’s family. Here's to a successful and rewarding year ahead!

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

Week 4

Conferences

When: Tuesday 20th & Thursday 22nd February (unless other arrangement made)

Conferences are held twice a year. This is the first of the two sessions.

Why do we hold these? The aim is to build meaningful connections and establish positive relationships/partnerships with parents. These meetings allow for the development of effective partnerships that are based on understanding and the sharing and monitoring of progress. Students share their goal/s for learning. These conferences are student focussed so we ask that you bring your child along… Afterall, they’re a rather important part of the process and the reason we’re all here!

Week 7

2/3/4 School Camp - Harrietville

When: Tuesday 12th to Wednesday 13th March

NAPLAN

These dates and information will be emailed directly to the parents of Year 3 & 5 students.

Week 5

Friday Night Gathering

When: Friday 1st March, 6pm

Based on feedback provided through a survey at the end of last year, we will be continuing our Friday Night services throughout the year. If you indicated you’re willing to help in some small way, we’ll contact you occasionally. We can’t wait to start these up again and thank you for your support of these evenings! Again, it’s a great way to build our community and the connections within it.

Week 3

Parent Information Night & P&F AGM

Where: St Paul’s school hall

When: Monday 12th Feb, starting at 6:30pm, 7:30pm AGM start

Please come along and hear about our goals for 2024, Wellbeing focus areas, our new Maths program and a chance to contribute your thoughts and questions. There will be a supper/refreshments provided. Hope to see you there!

Swimming Carnival

When: Wednesday 14th Feb

Students are to come to school as per normal and we will walk to the pool together. You are welcome to take your child/ren after completion. There will be a sign out sheet for you to sign. Buses will run as per normal if/as needed.

It’s certainly been a smooth start to the new year in our classrooms and we couldn’t be more excited to have everyone back on board for another year of learning. We trust you all had a restful break over the festive season.

Thank you to the P&F, particularly Kerri, for organising the Welcome BBQ on Sunday 4th. It was a hot day which meant the pool was a great place to be. What a blessed way to begin the year spending time with our St Paul’s community.

ATTENTION ADMIN

YEAR K & 1

What a great start to the school year in the K/1 classroom. Although we are small in number, we are big in determination and enthusiasm!

Welcome to our new Kinders – Rosie, Tiger and Wylie. It has been great to see how easily all students have eased back into school life and learning.

We have all enjoyed swimming lessons this week and can’t wait for the Swimming Carnival next Wednesday!

School books will come home on Friday. If you would like to cover them, that gives you the weekend to get this done. If not, just return them on Monday. I would appreciate them all coming back to school on Monday, as we will be needing them.

Library books (K/1) and readers (Year 1) will begin again next Monday.

If all students could ensure that they have a set of headphones at school for laptop use, it would be appreciated.

Looking forward to a year of learning and growing in the K/1 classroom!

Blessings,

Christine Biar

YEAR 2 & 3

Welcome to a new school year!

2/3 had a fantastic start to the year. Once we had settled into our new classroom and shared stories from our holidays, we had a go at a STEM challenge! The goal was to create a chair, out of newspaper and masking tape, that a toy could sit on. It was a great way for our class to work together in teams and to get to know each other. We discussed at the end the purpose of the task is to challenge ourselves and expand our thinking. We linked this with our learner profile areas of risk-taking, curiosity and collaboration.

A class newsletter with more details about our class this year will be going home tomorrow.

If you have any questions throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to contact me at katie.ridley@stpaulshenty.nsw.edu.au or call the school to arrange a meeting.

Blessings,

Miss Ridley

Student Agency & Voice is something the 4/5/6 students have been hearing us say a lot already this term. In Week 1 we spent a fair portion of time working collaboratively in small groups to design our classroom just the way we think it should be. Our teaching team spoke about the need for our students to feel connected to the things that happen within the classroom and have a sense of ownership. We gave all groups a floor map of the room and students had to plan accordingly, considering the areas that were needed and essential, plus planning the room based on Their maths skills were put to the test when measuring and drawing furniture to scale.

We are now trialling Zoe’s classroom plan, but the plan is to give all groups a turn at seeing their vision come to life. There will be a time to reflect on what worked and what didn’t work before the next setup.

Blessings,

Hollie Kinning

SWIMMING LESSONS

Swimming lessons this week have been wonderful for increasing the student's confidence and proficiency in the water.

The swimming carnival will be held on Wednesday 14th at the Henty Pool. Everyone is looking forward to it.

Thank you very much to our coaches: Katie Ridley and Bek Lubke, Sue Forland for helping out, and to Felicity for all her organisation
