TERM 2
WEEK 5
WEEK 5
Staff pray for a safe holiday break and for happy new memories to be made.
See you all in Week 6.
Yours in Christian Service
Brad Moss
During this time, we welcome Mr Peter Weier as the Interim Principal. Peter is a retired Principal with a wealth of knowledge. He was once my boss when he was leading Wagga Lutheran School. Peter will join the St Paul’s and St John’s team for three days per week, so will spend some time in Henty on Tuesdays and also Jindera for the remainder of his time.
Due to our professional and fantastic Deputy, Hollie Kinning, I am be able to confidently take leave. Please engage with Peter and Hollie if you require any support.
If it isn’t evident already, I thoroughly enjoy my job as Principal of St Paul’s and I am already looking forward to returning in Week 6.
Even more energised, charged up and ready for an exciting remainder of 2023!
We were successful in receiving a government grant of $25 000 to contribute towards a Covered Outdoor Learning Area, that will provide much needed shelter over our multi-purpose court.
Our generous P&F has also donated $15 000 towards this project. The school will contribute the remaining cost of the build.
We have engaged the services of Garry Mitchell as project manager and Chris Davey as our draftsman. The process of selecting a supplier and council approval has begun and we will keep you updated with the progress of this exciting development.
Thank you once again to our school P&F for your commitment to improving the accessibility of learning areas for our students.
Thank you for making Peter and his wife Lyn feel welcome when they arrive next term.

SABBATICAL LEAVE – A TIME TO STRENGTHEN
Ecclesiastes 3:1 A Time for Everything
DEVELOPMENTS OF OUR COLA ARE GETTING CLOSER
CONGRATULATIONS TO HOLLIE
Part of my contract as Principal of St Paul’s, includes sabbatical leave. The purpose of this leave is different from long service leave. It is intentionally designed for rejuvenation and rebuilding of spiritual, mental and physical health.
I will be taking five weeks leave during the first part of next term, weeks 1-5. Throughout this time, I will be engaging in a combination of 1:1 consultancy in spiritual leadership development, a personally designed fitness program and completing units of my Master of Leadership study.
A massive well-done to Hollie on completing the Lutheran Leadership Development Program (LDP). LDP is a leadership program designed for senior leaders in our schools. It is a two-year program which culminates in a Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Educational Enterprise) offered through Queensland University of Technology’s and in conjunction with Australian Lutheran College (ALC).
There is power in our students observing our staff engaging in learning.
Term 3
School will recommence for all students on Tuesday 18th July. The staff will start one day earlier as we plan and set up for the term. Our main focus will be curriculum, particularly Scope and Sequencing our teaching and learning programs across the Key Learning Areas.
Term 3 is really shaping up to be a great term!
I wish you God’s richest blessings over the mid-year break.
Another term comes to a close! It gets to this point of the term and I find myself questioning where the time has indeed gone!
Reports
I trust you received your child/s report this week and enjoyed learning of their progress, both academically and also how they approach their learning, including our Learner Profile skills. As teachers, it’s always a busy time of year, however a rewarding and informative process to assess the growth and development of each student. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child/s teacher to ask for clarification.
Friday Evening Gathering
Last Friday night, we held our first service for our school community and members of St Paul’s Lutheran Church. What a wonderful evening of collaboration and connection it was. It was wonderful to see our community come together and share in an evening of fellowship. How powerful it is to share our stories, show vulnerability and learn more about each other. No matter what we’ve been through, we have a Father who loves us regardless and I really think it puts a smile on His face to have His people gathered together in His name. We plan to have more of these services in the future.
School Production – Friday 25th August
Our Creative Arts focus for Term 3 is 100% - Drama! We think we have finalised the script and allocated roles to our students. We’re really looking forward to seeing how Toy Story 2 comes together and know it will be an entertaining show. We’re calling for all willing parent helpers! If you happen to have any large cardboard boxes lying around, please send them in. Or perhaps you have a keen interest to sew or an eye for the creative arts? Please fill out the online form using the link below to let us know your availability/willingness to help make this concert become a reality!
Blessings,

The Kinders have nearly completed 100 days of school! We have been counting each day since they started and everyone is looking forward to a celebration when we reach 100.
Both Kinders and Year Ones have been practising tricky words and sounds, which are displayed in the classroom. They all have flashcards which they have taken home to help them with their learning.
I hope all K/1 students and families have a wonderful holiday, enjoy the break from routines, and return to school next term ready for more learning!

We brought 2 pumpkins back from St Paul’s College and our class cooked up a big batch of soup in the kitchen together.
We also attempted to make our own paper using paper that was headed for the recycling bin. It's good to be sustainable!
Last week we enjoyed a visit to the St Paul’s College Community Garden in Walla.
Cheryl Paech and some Year 7 students talked to us about sustainability and how we can incorporate some sustainable practices here at school. It was a really informative session and we all learnt a lot.
The Year 7 students even baked us some muffins and chocolate brownies! We’re really looking forward to putting some of the things we learnt into action in our vegie garden.
Enjoy these photos from the end of the term!
In Math, we used our knowledge of 3D shapes to create a famous landmark or building including Big Ben!
Micah and Blake’s footy club finished up last Friday with the blue team winning the grand final!
It was a very close game!
John started garden club and had some K-2 helpers to plant strawberries.
We are looking forward to picking strawberries when it starts to warm up!
Many blessings,
Miss Katie Ridley
We enjoyed sport on Monday afternoon with an amazing rainbow appearing above us!
In Science, 5&6 have been learning about the 3 states of matter-solids, liquids and gases.
We investigated the viscosity of liquids by timing how quickly different liquids flow, such as chocolate topping and tomato sauce! We also experimented making a gas from vinegar and baking soda!
What a great (albeit busy) term we have had with our students here at St Paul’s. It has been a privilege to watch their social and emotional development this term and I feel we are starting to see some growth around empathy. It can be quite a difficult topic for the younger ones to understand, however the students across all grades have really embraced teamwork and helping one another. Being able to act with love, compassion and kindness builds a sense of happiness and we can see that through the participation in the Clubs (football, gardening, tennis and gymnastics) that the children have been participating in during their break sessions. It is beautiful to see the older students guiding the younger children and giving them advice on some of the challenges they have met.
Research supports the view that empathy contributes to prosocial behaviour and lays the foundation for supportive community minded members. Even though our empathic responses will change over time and evolve with development, we understand that our children will become better at distinguishing their own thoughts and feelings (through our zones of regulation) and how they differ from others, so they can begin to experience genuine empathy; ‘walking in someone else’s shoes’. It is through this experience that people are motivated to make moral choices and acts of kindness.
As we venture into the winter holidays, I have made a short list of activities you may like to try (especially if it is rainy and cold) at home with your families that help build kindness and empathy.
I have also provided some links for additional information if you are interested.

CONGRATULATIONS Faith, Simeon & Sora
Week 10: Brad Moss & ST PAUL'S SPIRIT AWARD
Despite the passing showers, a great day of competition and sportsmanship was enjoyed by all.
Well done to all students on their efforts throughout the day, and congratulations to Mundawadra on being House Champions for 2023.
Congratulations to our Age Champions
Junior Girls – Harriet
Junior Boys – Simeon
Senior Boys - Aiden
We also had a number of students break records on the day, including:
Michael (7 years boys) – 200m
Annabel (7 years girls) – 200m and 400m
Harriet (8 years girls) – 200m, 800m and long jump
Simeon (9 years boys) – high jump (equalled the record)
Mahliq (9 years boys) – discus
Aiden (12/13 years boys) – discus
A massive thankyou to St Paul’s College for once again providing and preparing us a venue for our carnival, and the amazing students who helped run events throughout the day.
This term in PE the K/1 class has spent time learning and practising the fundamental movement skill of the vertical jump. It has been great to see the students putting into practise and developing their skills, which culminated with them using their jumping skills to ‘jump’ rope.
2/3/4 have spent this term developing their kicking skills and putting them into action in modified games. They have used both soccer balls and at times AFL balls to practise the correct technique. It was great to have Dustin use his expertise to demonstrate the kicking skills required in soccer during his week of work experience.
The 5/6 class this term have enjoyed a variety of ‘invasion’ games, building on their throwing and catching skills, while incorporating depending and evading skills (without body contact). It has been great to see the continued development of students’ cooperative play skills from last term during these team-based games.
During wet weather, we have also enjoyed being able to use the hall to play some indoor hockey (like this week!)
