A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce the launch of our new parent testimony posters and Facebook advertisements, featuring the voices of our valued parent community. These testimonies highlight the unique experiences and positive impacts that our school has on your children.

As you walk into our school, you will notice these posters prominently displayed. They serve as a testament to the supportive and nurturing environment we strive to create every day. Additionally, our Facebook page will soon feature these testimonies, allowing us to reach even more families and share the wonderful stories that make our school a special place.

We extend our heartfelt thank you to the parents who have already shared their stories with us. Your words are powerful and play a crucial role in shaping the future of our school community.

If you would like to contribute your own testimony, we would love to hear from you! Please email me directly at brad.moss@stpaulshenty.nsw.edu.au with your interest and I will forward through some information to help you create your testimony. Your experiences and insights are invaluable and we would love to share them with our wider community.

We also invite all families to come and take some posters to proudly display in any business or appropriate locations to help promote St Paul's. Your support in spreading the word about our school is greatly appreciated and will help us reach even more families in our area. Together, we can continue to build and strengthen the St Paul's community.

Thank you for your continued support and for being such an integral part of our school family.

Yours in Christian service

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

This year we are celebrating the magic of reading a little differently. The theme for Book Week is:

Book Week

On Wednesday, we will have a Dress Up Day! Students are allowed to come dressed up as a character from a favourite book. We won’t be having a parade as such, however each class will take time to chat about costumes and why the book is special to them.

We are also having an Art competition based on one of this year’s shortlisted books, The Concrete Garden. Artworks will be displayed in the staffroom area and will be open for viewing from Tuesday to Thursday. Parents welcome to check out our work.

Reading really is magic and we look forward to celebrating with students next week!

Parent Lounge
If you haven’t logged into Parent Lounge for a while, I encourage you to please do so. Please continually check that details are up to date. You can add absences from here also, but it’s really important to add a reason for the absence when submitting in this way.

Absences

A reminder to parents to please inform us of all absences. Not only just a message saying your child is away, but also, we require a reason (albeit brief) for the absence. Whatever it may be… sick at home, attending a funeral, family trip extended long weekend, etc) we must have this recorded for official purposes.

Return & Earn

If you have 10c bottles at home, feel free to bring them into school. We have a bin specifically for this so if you currently don’t do this yourself, we’re happy to put the money to good things for your students at school!

Congratulations MegLast Sunday, Meg Todori participated in the Lions Club Public Speaking competition which was held in Beechworth. Meg was able to do this as she won the local competition last term. Her speech was about a favourite fairy tale character.

Although Meg was nervous about speaking in front of people, she faced her fears and took a risk. Meg displayed so many of our Learner Profile characteristics. Well done, Meg, we’re so proud of you!

Blessings for your week ahead,

Hollie Kinning

We are celebrating Book Week at school across Week 5. The Book Stall will be open for purchases on Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd during first (11:30-12pm) and second lunch (1:30-1:55pm). Students can create a wish list and bring money in on either of the three days to make purchases. Alternatively, parents are welcome to come in during those times.  Details about online orders from QBD Books will be provided next week.

Curiosity in the K/1 classroom

Last week the question was asked – ‘How do spiders make webs?’ As we are focussing on curiosity this term, we thought we would do some investigating. We watched a video of a spider making a web and then did some more research, writing an Information Report during a writing lesson. Here is what we discovered:

Did you know?

Spiders have more than one spinneret to produce silk from, often a whole cluster. Imagine how much silk they could make!

Learning new information can be so much fun!

How Spiders Make Webs

  1. Spiders make silk from their spinnerets on their tummies.
  2. They make the straight lines first.
  3. Then they do the spirals.
  4. It takes them 30-60 minutes to make a web.

YEAR 2 & 3

Blessings,

Miss Ridley

This week, our storybook we have been reading is “Migaloo, the White Whale”. As curious learners, we came up with a list of questions we wanted to find out about Migaloo and humpback whales:

  • What the humpback whale song sounds like?
  • Why whales migrate?
  • Why is Migaloo white?
  • What other types of whales are there?

We then wrote an information report about Migaloo by researching these questions. Ask a 2/3 student for an interesting fact about Migaloo!

What a great trip the 5/6s had to Canberra! We visited loads of places and we learnt something from each one. Here’s where we visited:

Australian Institute of Sport, National Electoral Education Centre, Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House), Questacon, Australian War Memorial, National Capital Exhibition, Parliament House and Activities at Warrambui that included Trivia night, Obstacle course, Volleyball and Frisbee Golf.

P & F NEWS

After a few delays and logistical challenges, some of our old uniforms have finally found their way to South Africa. Hands at Work were blown away by the quality of the uniforms St Paul's donated and are so thankful.

This trip we were able to take sports shorts and shirts, as well as woollen jumpers. Our old colours of grey and gold matched almost perfectly with one of the primary schools in Mafambisa, South Africa!

GRANDPARENT'S DAY

We had such a lovely morning spending time with our Grandparents!

The 2/3 class lead our special Grandparents Day Chapel on Tuesday which was followed by a picnic morning tea. We enjoyed playing games, reading to our grandparents and showing them around the school.

Thank you to all our grandparents and family for joining us!

AWARDS & CHAPEL

Chapel is held each Tuesday morning at 9:20am in the School Hall.

You are always welcome!

Merit and Learner Profile Awards are presented.

BERNIE O'CONNOR CARNIVAL

On Friday 1st of September, Years 3 to 6 went to Yerong Creek for the Bernie O’Connor Carnival. We played with St Joseph’s, Culcairn and St Patrick’s, Holbrook. It was a great day!  The sun was shining, and everyone had lot’s of fun.

The 5/6 boys played footy and came 1st for the whole day. We played against The Rock and the score was 12 to 32. The 3-4 boys came 3rd in the whole day. Well done to the 5/6 and 3/4 girls playing netball who got runners up.

Well done to Ivan and Neve for playing with students they didn’t know.

Congratulations to Blake for winning the furthest kicking competition.

Thank you for the coaches and families who helped on the day.
