A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Student agency, student voice, and student choice are essential for creating a positive and effective learning environment for children. When students have agency, they take an active role in their education, which helps them feel more responsible and motivated to learn. This sense of ownership encourages them to engage deeply with their learning. By working alongside and involving students in decisions about their learning, we help them develop important skills like critical thinking and problem-solving, preparing them for future challenges both in school and in life.

The Importance of a Learner’s Voice

Additionally, when we listen to and value their input, we create a more inclusive and supportive school culture where every child feels valued and heard. This sense of belonging is crucial for their overall development and well-being.

Collaborating with students and supporting them to know why and how they learn, makes their learning meaningful. When children have a voice in topics that interest them, they are more likely to stay engaged and retain information better. This relevance can lead to improved academic performance and a greater love for learning.

Yours in Christian service

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

As a staff team this term, we are looking at and following a series of online webinars about Student Voice. Student voice is not a program or an add on in schools. Student voice is seeing students as having agency and capability in decision-making. Schools that embrace the potential of all students as partners create a schoolwide culture of shared responsibility. Our staff team are enjoying discussing what this could look like in our school and we are excited to see where it could lead. This quote is a particularly good one that we reflected on in this week’s staff meeting…

SRC

The Students for the Representative Council have been appointed for the term and have already begun planning events for the term ahead. The first event is Wednesday 29th May and will be a Casual Clothes Day. All funds raised will be donated to a local group in the Henty Community. The theme for the casual clothes day is – What do you want to be when you grow up?

Our SRC is one way that provides students the opportunity to have a voice and input into what’s happening in our school and why. As the year progresses, it will be exciting to see what direction this group wants to take as our student leaders drive and direct decision making.

Working Bee & Pizza Night

After the recent P&F meeting, a date was set for an evening for school families to come together to both support the school (Working Bee) and have the opportunity to socialise with one another. Friday 14th June (Week 7) is the date.

More information to come shortly, but please put it in your calendars.

Blessings for the week ahead,

Hollie

Friday Night Gathering

We know life gets busy and sometimes it’s hard to squeeze everything in. We know there are a few families unavailable this Friday night, regardless, we look forward to gathering with those available to share stories and learn from and with each other. 6pm in the hall, bring a potluck casserole dish to share.

Community Involvement

We are always looking for ways that we can get involved in our community. This week, our K-3 students will be going to the Henty Library to participate in Simultaneous Storytime. It was also wonderful to be able to support the preschool at their recent plant stall. If there are any ideas you might have as to how we can get our students more involved with what’s happening in our wonderful community, please let me know!

Last day Term 1

YEAR K & 1

The learning continues in the K/1 classroom!

Well done to all the K/1 students for a wonderful effort with leading the Mother’s Day Chapel! They always do a fantastic job and I am so proud of them!

The Year 1s continue to improve in their reading ability. Guided reading sessions allow them to put into practice what they have been learning about digraphs, blends and sounding out. These readers then go home as home readers.

The Kinders are still learning all their single sounds and putting them together to make words and then sentences.

We love playing maths games! It makes learning so much more fun!

We have enjoyed having our first session of bowls last week. Who said only old people could play bowls?!!

Blessings for the week ahead,

Christine Biar

YEAR 2 & 3

Blessings,

Miss Ridley

This term in Geography, 2/3 have been exploring the countries and continents of the world.

We got our ‘passports’ and went exploring countries around the world! Some places we visited and learnt about were France, India, and Egypt.

Last week, we were very excited to have Caitie Klemke helping us in the classroom. Caitie helped us in our math lesson learning how to use split strategy for addition. Thank you for visiting Caitie!

Our Unit in English this term is titled Weird, Wild and Amazing Animals. We’ve been practising our note taking skills whilst listening to and watching National Geographic short videos on some truly amazing animals. Students are increasing their ability to listen carefully and condense key information into short dot points. Our Big Write this week will be writing an Informative Test based on one of the animals that have been researched so far.

In Maths, we have been learning about Perimeter and Area. Students have been working inside and outside measuring the perimeter of many things around the school, including the chook pen, the oval, the netball court, doors, tables, etc.

There definitely has been some quality learning taking place in 4/5/6 which has been great to see!

YEAR 4, 5 & 6

NETBALL NSW SCHOOL'S CUP

The Netball Gala Day was fun. It was held at the JC King Park in Albury.

Most 4\5\6 students attended the event and also some Yr. 3’s. Our 5\6 team played really well together and won every game. The 3\4 team won 4 out of their 6 games and they had lots of fun.

It was great to see our small school compete so strongly against larger schools. We really enjoyed mixing with other students and enjoyed playing a great sport together.  Thank you to all the parents that drove students to the event.
