A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

As we approach Father's Day, I find myself reflecting on the privilege it is to be the father of three beautiful daughters, Allira-Jayne, Ashleigh and Penelope. Being a father is one of the greatest challenges and also the greatest joy I have experienced. I hope that my girls grow up to remember me as a powerful, supportive and loving male influence in their lives.

I am deeply grateful for the values my father instilled in me. The love and care that fathers, grandfathers and other positive male role models provide are truly transformative, offering children a foundation of security and strength.

Spending time with our children and being present, is the best investment of time we can have as fathers. It's in these moments that we build trust, create memories, and nurture the bonds that will last a lifetime.

As we honour our fathers and special males in our lives this Father's Day, let us also remember the ultimate example of a loving father, Jesus Christ. His love is perfect, patient, and unconditional, serving as a guide for all of us in our relationships with our children. In John 15:9, Jesus says, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love." This verse reminds us of the deep and abiding love that Jesus has for us, a love that we are called to reflect in our own lives as fathers, grandfathers and male role models.

This Father's Day, let's celebrate the gift of fatherhood and the incredible impact that love, presence and positive influence can have on our children's lives.

Celebrating Our Father's and Special Male Role Models in our Lives

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

It’s been a fortnight already since the last newsletter edition. Where are the days and weeks going?

There’s been so much happening at school in the last two weeks and still plenty to come which is providing ample opportunities for our students.

Concert

We’re excited about our concert! The stage is set with the matinee happening today and the evening concert on Friday 30th August at 6pm. Creative Arts promotes confidence, self-esteem, can support emotional development and physical well-being. Creative Arts significantly contributes to cognitive development by engaging various mental processes. We are grateful for the opportunity to act, dance, sing and make music in our Creative Arts lessons and really looking forward to performing for our school community.

Sport

Another opportunity that our senior students are looking forward to is competing in the Bernie O’Connor Football and Netball Carnival held at Yerong Creek this Friday. A big thank you to our coaches for volunteering their time, (Megan Schuller, Tim Lubke and Dave Forland) to lead our teams. Team sports are a great way to foster collaboration and reinforce the notion of working together for a common goal. We also are looking forward to competing with St Patrick’s Holbrook and St Joseph’s Culcairn.

Blessings,

Hollie Kinning

Gymnastics

We are fortunate to have Ben from Little Champions Gymnastics. Ben will be teaching our students for the next five weeks. You’ll be able to see photos of our first session in the class newsletter entries.

Watoto Choir

A reminder that if you’d like to attend a concert at school by the Watoto Choir from Uganda, please contact Alison to book your place. It will be on Wednesday 4th September at 12pm. How special it will be to have them with us.

Questacon Science Circus

This is a lively presentation of science to towns and primary schools across regional Australia. They will be visiting us on Friday 6th September at 9:30am.

So many happenings and opportunities to look forward to!

YEAR K & 1

We had a lovely time celebrating Book Week last week. All K,1 students enjoyed creating an artwork based on the book The Concrete Garden.

On Tuesday we headed to the Henty Library for a Book Week Storytime session. We had a great time searching for books that followed a clue, listening to a story, then making our own magical wands. Thanks to the Council for a fun time!

On Wednesday we dressed up as a book character. We had characters from the books Little Women, The Incredibles, Cowzat, Frozen, Famous Five, The Gruffalo and Aliens in Underpants Save the World.

To celebrate the magic of books, we started reading a class novel – Gangsta Granny. I am encouraging the students to try to form a picture in their minds and use their imagination. I know I have them hooked into the book when they all groan as the book closes at the end of a chapter!

Books and stories are amazing!

YEAR 2 & 3

Blessings,

Miss Ridley

We have been investigating different ways of representing multiplication facts in the 2/3 class this week. We have been using terms such as “groups of” and using counters to make arrays.

In Literacy, we have been working on our Sizzling Starts to make our writing more interesting and to ban the boring! We have brainstormed different ways we can start our story rather than using ‘One Day’ or ‘Once upon a time’. We could start our story in a sizzling way by using dialogue, a sound, a question, a flashback, or foreshadowing.

Gymnastics began this week and we already have learnt new skills such as how to land safely after a jump.

It was fantastic to see the different book characters our class dressed up as last week. Congratulations to Isabelle and Louisa for winning our Book Week Art Competition.

Students in 4/5/6 have been busy preparing for our school concert this week. It’s definitely something students are looking forward to! We have also started Gymnastics lessons with Ben from Little Champions with much excitement.

We look forward to learning new skills. Some moves we’ve learnt are the candle stick, tuck, motor bike, forward roll, bunny hop and tuck jump. We encourage you to ask your child to show you what each move looks like!

FATHER'S DAY BREAKFAST

Thank you to the P & F for hosting the Father's Day Breakfast on Tuesday 27th August. The sun was shining and everyone enjoyed bacon and egg rolls, a chat and time with the kids.

Chapel was led by Year 6 and was a beautiful tribute to the love and esteem that we hold the fatherly figures in our lives. Thank you, Year 6.

GRANDPARENT'S DAY

We had such a lovely morning spending time with our Grandparents!

The 2/3 class lead our special Grandparents Day Chapel on Tuesday which was followed by a picnic morning tea. We enjoyed playing games, reading to our grandparents and showing them around the school.

Thank you to all our grandparents and family for joining us!

AWARDS & CHAPEL

Chapel is held each Tuesday morning at 9:20am in the School Hall.

You are always welcome!

Merit and Learner Profile Awards are presented.

BERNIE O'CONNOR FOOTBALL & NETBALL

K-3 were given the opportunity to sing at the Ladies Guild meeting. We were also able to thank them for providing money to purchase a school set of Bibles.

We look forward to a continued connection between the school and the church.

BERNIE O'CONNOR CARNIVAL

On Friday 1st of September, Years 3 to 6 went to Yerong Creek for the Bernie O’Connor Carnival. We played with St Joseph’s, Culcairn and St Patrick’s, Holbrook. It was a great day!  The sun was shining, and everyone had lot’s of fun.

The 5/6 boys played footy and came 1st for the whole day. We played against The Rock and the score was 12 to 32. The 3-4 boys came 3rd in the whole day. Well done to the 5/6 and 3/4 girls playing netball who got runners up.

Well done to Ivan and Neve for playing with students they didn’t know.

Congratulations to Blake for winning the furthest kicking competition.

Thank you for the coaches and families who helped on the day.
