TERM 2
WEEK 5
WEEK 5
Our school values remain grounded in our solid foundation of God’s love, grace and compassion. Students of St Paul’s in the past, present and future will always have this. We want all our students to have their lives enriched through what they can do for others, just as David and Colin’s were.
I encourage you to look at the flyer for this upcoming regional event. It’s a great way to learn more about the Bonegilla Migrant Centre while raising money for overseas aid provided by ALWS. It’s also a celebration of the 75th Anniversary of ALWS. Go to the website for more information about events on the day and instructions on how to register online to participate in the fundraising walk or just come as an attendee. Regional Lutheran schools and churches are getting involved in different ways. We would love you to come along!

At St Paul’s, our job is to help give our students a strong head start to living a fulfilling life. Today I was particularly reminded of this when I attended the funeral of David Muller, who began his schooling at St Paul’s in 1937 and continued to support our school his whole life. Pastor Darryl led us in a church service of celebration for the life David lived which was full of service to others and caring connections. Earlier this year, our community lost Colin Zweck who also went to school at St Paul’s and then continued to serve our school. Part of living in a rural community is knowing generations of families – welcoming the new and farewelling people from our past.

Last week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday – the day before Lent begins. This is also known as Pancake Tuesday, where people used up food items before entering a period of fasting. Lent is a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by many Christians in preparation for Easter. This represents the 40 days that Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert before starting his public ministry.
Although we do not generally fast for 40 days, many people still try to abstain from something they enjoy during the period of Lent. By giving up something, people aim to strengthen their willpower, resist temptation and focus on their relationship with God. Some choose to focus on the needs of others instead of their own, for instance, by giving up things and then donating the money they would have spent to charity instead.
What could we give up for 40 days? Chocolate? Social media? Alcohol? Coffee? It doesn’t have to be a physical item you are giving up either. Maybe you could abstain from complaining, wasting time, or gossiping. Instead, your time could be spent on being kind to people and showing compassion. Think about what you could go without for 40 days…
Just a friendly reminder that students need a HAT everyday!
Thank you.
Congratulations to our students who competed at the RAS Swimming carnival on Wednesday 5th March.
It was a day of very strong competition, and while we didn’t have anyone finish with any ribbons, it was impressive to see the improvements in their times.
All students should be proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school!

In English, the Kinders have started learning their letters! It has been so exciting to learn the letters ‘m’ and ‘s ‘and the sound that each makes. The Year Ones have been learning about compound words and Year Twos have been focusing on the spelling choices for the long vowel sounds.
Blessings,
Christine
In Geography, the K-3 students have enjoyed learning how towns and streets get their names – usually from an Aboriginal name, a famous person or a natural landmark around the area. They have started designing their own town, deciding on street names from the three categories listed above.
3/4 have been investigating “What is in 1000 words?’ by estimating 1000 words in a newspaper or magazine. We used maths skills including estimation, addition and multiplication to estimate 1000 printed words and find the difference between their estimate and 1000. In the investigation, we used critical thinking skills to describe the strategy used for our second estimations. Some of us got very close with our estimations… Abel being the closest guess at 995!
This week 5/6 have been ‘flying’ around Australia for our Maths Investigation ‘Race Around Australia’. Students have been set the task to schedule flights to race around Australia in less than 48 hours. They are using maths skills including mapping, reading and interpreting timetables, and organisational skills to predict and plan their race route. Students will also use critical thinking skills to demonstrate how they calculated their total race time and explain how they found the difference between 48 hours and their total race time.
In Science, 4/5/6 have been looking into how and why people manage environments to grow and produce food, while also questioning, exploring and explaining why and how food and fibre can be produced in a sustainable way.
Blessings,
Felicity
We had such a lovely morning spending time with our Grandparents!
The 2/3 class lead our special Grandparents Day Chapel on Tuesday which was followed by a picnic morning tea. We enjoyed playing games, reading to our grandparents and showing them around the school.
Thank you to all our grandparents and family for joining us!

The P&F have decided to contribute $50,000 to be put towards a new playground and outdoor learning space at school, a place current and future students will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
Our first event in 2025 will be our annual Welcome BBQ to be held on Sunday 2nd February. This is always a great day to catch up after the summer break. More details to come in the New Year.
