WEEK 5
Mental health challenges among Australian youth have been rising in recent years. Recent statistics from Beyond Blue, reveal that one in seven Australian young people aged 4-17 experience a mental health condition in any given year and over half of all mental health issues emerge by the age of 14. According to the National Study of Mental Health and Well Being, in 2020–22, 26% of people aged 16–24 experienced high or very high psychological distress. These figures are a sobering reminder of the importance of nurturing a positive mental health environment both at school and at home.
R U OK Day, is a much needed reminder for us to focus on the mental health of ourselves and others, yet it should be our focus every day! As a Christian community that values supporting the needs of the whole child, it’s essential that we prioritise the mental health and well-being of our young people.
As Christians, we find comfort and strength in our faith. The Bible reminds us of the importance of gratitude and casting our worries upon Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Teaching our children to focus on gratitude, to talk about their concerns and to know they can trust God with their worries, can provide them with both emotional and spiritual resilience. It is through this approach that we can help them develop strong mental health and navigate the challenges they may face.
I encourage those of us who are in a positive mental space, to offer our support to others. I also encourage those in our community who are going through a mentally tough time, to reach out to friends or professionals.

Week 8 has been a quieter week at St Paul’s. After the many events we’ve been enjoying, it has been nice to simply ‘be’ at school. This is not to diminish the importance of events and happenings. These things all grow community and foster enjoyment in and out of the classroom. Watoto Choir was a wonderful example of this. What powerful stories they all have and confidently shared with our community and many others along their travels.

Having the ability to be present and still amidst the busyness of every day life can be difficult. To go from racing around every weekend with sporting commitments to having that finish (still gutted my netball team lost!) can take adjusting. With Field Days just around the corner also, it means a little more (good) crazy in our lives. It can be in the still moments we can have a conversation with a friend, a student, family. It’s also when we can hear from God. There are many Bible verses encouraging us to be still.
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God “.
I love the verse in Zephaniah 3:17. In particular, ‘With his love, he will calm all your fears.’ Synonyms for the word calm are; peacefulness, tranquil, quiet, serene, restful, balmy, undisturbed… Doesn’t this sound like a wonderful place to be?
My prayer for you this week, is that you can take the time to find your calm and I pray that God helps you to be still in those moments.

The K,1 class has been really enjoying our gymnastics lessons with Ben. This week we were learning about front support, the candlestick and the angry cat. We even did a 2-person stance where we walked with our hands! For our circus skill this week, we were practising spinning a plate on a stick.
In Christian Studies we have been looking at how our church is more than a building. We looked at what is usually in a traditional church (altar, candles, Bible, stained glass windows etc) but how we don’t really need any of them to worship God – we can worship Him anywhere! We then made some models of a traditional church building.

2/3 will begin their mini PBL unit next week. The unit is literacy and maths focused, with students publishing their own picture book about numbers. Our driving question is…
How can I, as an author, create a picture book that supports children in mathematical development in early years education?
Students will present their picture books to the K/1 class and at a showcase at the end of the term.
Multiplication, Division and Place Value have been the main areas we’ve been investigating in Maths the last two weeks.
Our Learning Intentions have been:-
How about you try solving a few problems with your child/ren?!

The school concert on the 30th August was a huge success. The students rose to the occasion and they confidently presented what they had been diligently working on during the term. A big thank you to the staff and students for the effort, creativity and humour!
We had such a lovely morning spending time with our Grandparents!
The 2/3 class lead our special Grandparents Day Chapel on Tuesday which was followed by a picnic morning tea. We enjoyed playing games, reading to our grandparents and showing them around the school.
Thank you to all our grandparents and family for joining us!
Chapel is held each Tuesday morning at 9:20am in the School Hall.
You are always welcome!
Merit and Learner Profile Awards are presented.

K-3 were given the opportunity to sing at the Ladies Guild meeting. We were also able to thank them for providing money to purchase a school set of Bibles.
We look forward to a continued connection between the school and the church.
On Friday 1st of September, Years 3 to 6 went to Yerong Creek for the Bernie O’Connor Carnival. We played with St Joseph’s, Culcairn and St Patrick’s, Holbrook. It was a great day! The sun was shining, and everyone had lot’s of fun.
The 5/6 boys played footy and came 1st for the whole day. We played against The Rock and the score was 12 to 32. The 3-4 boys came 3rd in the whole day. Well done to the 5/6 and 3/4 girls playing netball who got runners up.
Well done to Ivan and Neve for playing with students they didn’t know.
